What it actually does
This trend gadget for the garden charges with solar energy, according to the manufacturer. A motion sensor triggers a warning sound and a flashing light, each staying active for 1 minute. The figure also has a reflective surface and a small bell. It is meant to keep away dogs, cats, rats, mice, birds and foxes. The manufacturer states a range of about 6 – 8 m. The owl can be hung up or staked into the ground and comes in green. Whether animals stay away for good remains open.
Reasons for
- Charges with solar energy
- Can be hung or staked
- Reflector and bell included
Reasons against
- Sound and flash may annoy neighbours
- Effect on animals not proven
Who should skip it
If your garden has little direct sun, be sceptical, since the device relies on solar charging. Anyone who does not want regular warning sounds and flashes outside, or who needs to cover a very large area, can skip the owl.
