What it actually does
The Gardigo cat and dog repeller is a battery-powered ultrasonic device for outdoor use. A built-in motion sensor switches it on when it detects movement; the unit then emits ultrasound at changing frequencies, which according to the manufacturer should stop animals from getting used to it. The sounds are said to be inaudible to humans. The detection range can be adjusted. It runs on batteries, and the manufacturer says it also works in cooler temperatures. A hanger and mounting material are included. Die moderne Hausfrau CH sells it for CHF 26.91 plus CHF 6.95 shipping.
Reasons for
- Motion sensor activates automatically
- Changing frequencies to prevent habituation
- Adjustable detection range
Reasons against
- Needs batteries, run time not stated
- No range figure given
Who should skip it
If your own pets use the garden, bear in mind the ultrasound is likely to affect them as well. The manufacturer says nothing about other visitors such as martens or birds. Anyone wanting solid proof of effectiveness will find no test results in the listing.
