What it actually does
The Play2Video Ultra is an adapter that, according to the manufacturer, converts an existing wired CarPlay or Android Auto connection into a wireless one. Netflix, YouTube, IPTV and Prime Video come pre-installed, and an app hub lets you add up to 5 more, such as JOYN, DAZN or LINE MUSIC. The device runs a closed Android system, which Ottocast says should be more stable and secure than open systems. Firmware updates arrive wirelessly through the OttoPilot app. In the US shop the adapter costs 75 USD instead of 149 USD, a 50 percent discount. There is only one version.
Reasons for
- Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto
- Streaming apps pre-installed
- Wireless firmware updates via app
- 50 percent below list price
Reasons against
- Ships from the US, priced in USD
- Limited to 5 additional apps
- No customer ratings available
Who should skip it
If you only want navigation and music in the car, you do not need the streaming apps but pay for them anyway. Without existing wired CarPlay or Android Auto there is nothing to convert. Anyone wary of US shipping and USD pricing should look locally.
