What it actually does
The Mini NOVA is a small adapter that, according to the manufacturer, runs CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly: calls, music and navigation without a cable to the phone. It remembers your device and reconnects automatically every time the car starts. Installation is described as plug in and drive, with no apps and no setup. The body is textured aluminium and compact, meant to stay firmly in place and save space. Firmware updates arrive over the air (FOTA) and are supposed to deliver bug fixes and keep compatibility current. Only one version is listed. Price: USD 49 instead of USD 69, a 29 percent discount, at Ottocast's US shop with international shipping.
Reasons for
- Automatic reconnection at every start, according to the manufacturer
- No app, no setup: plug in and drive
- Compact textured aluminium body
- FOTA updates for bug fixes
Reasons against
- Only one version, no choice of port or colour
- US shop with USD prices; import costs to Switzerland may apply
Who should skip it
If you charge and connect your phone by cable anyway, you gain little. If your car does not support CarPlay or Android Auto, check compatibility with the manufacturer before buying. And if you also want a dash cam or HDMI input, Ottocast lists other models for that.
