What it actually does
According to the manufacturer, the Car TV Mate Pro plugs into the car's USB port and converts wired CarPlay to wireless, with no special tools required. It also has HDMI and wired projection, so a connected device can show movies, games or presentations on the car display. It reconnects to the phone automatically when the car starts, and firmware updates arrive over the air via the OttoPilot app. Two variants exist: Wireless CarPlay Only for USD 60 and Wireless Android Auto + CarPlay for USD 74.
Reasons for
- Wired-to-wireless CarPlay via the car's USB port
- HDMI input for external devices
- Over-the-air firmware updates
Reasons against
- Needs a car with wired CarPlay; wider compatibility not specified
- Updates need the OttoPilot app despite the 'no apps' claim
- US shop, USD prices; import costs not stated
Who should skip it
If your car already supports wireless CarPlay, the main function is redundant. Drivers who never watch video or mirror a device in the car do not need the HDMI part and may prefer a plain wireless adapter.
