What it actually does
The Tulip by Slamp is a rechargeable table lamp with an integrated LED, designed by Marc Sadler. An aluminium stem holds a handmade, thermoformed Lentiflex crown that encloses the light source and is meant to resemble a flower. According to the manufacturer, the light is controlled and dimmed by gestures; no conventional switch is mentioned. Stated run time is 6 hours at the highest brightness and 60 hours at the lowest. Lampenwelt CH, a Swiss shop, lists the black-base version in gold and black at CHF 253.60 instead of CHF 298.35, with CHF 8.99 shipping.
Reasons for
- Cordless, battery powered
- Dimmable by gesture control
- Up to 60 hours at lowest setting
Reasons against
- Only 6 hours at full brightness
- High price for a table lamp
- Brightness and colour temperature not stated
Who should skip it
If you just want a bright work lamp, look elsewhere: Tulip is a design object, and at full brightness the battery lasts only 6 hours according to the manufacturer. Anyone who finds gesture control fiddly or won't spend CHF 253.60 on a lamp should pass.
